Children’s Choir of Holy Family Conservatory

The mission of the Children’s Choir of Holy Family Conservatory is “To offer excellent instruction in choral music inspired by the Kodály Concept of Music Education and the choral standards of the American Choral Directors Association; and to provide outstanding performance opportunities, including performances with the music ensembles of Silver Lake College of the Holy Family” and Holy Family Conservatory recitals. In keeping with the tradition of excellence found in Music for Tots™ programs, Holy Family Conservatory of Music expands its music education offerings to include children in grades 2-6 with the Children’s Choir. The Silver Lake Children’s Choir was co-founded by Damon Carlson and Carol Storck in 2012.

The Children’s Choir of Holy Family Conservatory offers creative, age-appropriate choral music instruction to children in grades 1-12. Choir activities focus on singers' vocal range, tone quality, music literacy skills, and performance skills. Movement is stressed in rehearsal through the use of Eurhythmics, dance, and singing games. Repertoire consists of folk songs, multicultural music, songs in foreign languages, and works by major composers. The choir curriculum builds on the early childhood music curriculum established by internationally recognized specialist in the Kodály Approach to music education, Sister Lorna Zemke, DMA.  Sister Lorna’s work is based on the belief that early childhood music education is an essential foundation necessary for musical and human development.
